Working Together to Strengthen Emergency Medical Services

Agate Fire Protection District, Limon Ambulance Service, and Lincoln Health Hospital are working together to develop the High Plains EMS Authority—a regional partnership focused on strengthening emergency medical services throughout our rural communities.

Rural EMS agencies face many challenges, including staffing shortages, rising equipment costs, long transport distances, and the need to provide dependable emergency coverage across a large geographic area. By coordinating our people, equipment, training, and resources, we can build a stronger and more sustainable EMS system for the future.

What This Means for Our Community

The High Plains EMS Authority is intended to:

  • Improve emergency medical coverage throughout the service area.

  • Strengthen staffing and provide more consistent coverage.

  • Share personnel, ambulances, equipment, and other resources.

  • Expand training and professional-development opportunities.

  • Improve coordination between participating agencies.

  • Pursue grants and funding opportunities more effectively.

  • Continue providing high-quality, locally focused patient care.

Community members should continue calling 911 whenever emergency assistance is needed. Dispatchers will send the closest and most appropriate available resources.
